PCR test
Direct virus detection of SARS-CoV-2 is possible using a PCR test. It is therefore the only reliable test to detect an acute infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. During this examination, a throat and nasal swab will be taken.
Rapid antigen test
Antibody determination
We use the CE-certified “Elecsys® Anti-SARS-CoV-2 S” test from Roche to determine antibodies. The test detects antibodies against the spike protein (S-lgG) of SARS-CoV-2 in a quantitative method. When looking at a natural course of infection, these are formed after roughly 3-4 weeks. The test is also suited to prove vaccination success and corresponds to the international WHO standard (NIBSC 20-136). We therefore provide the quantitative results in the WHO unit BAU/ml (Binding Antibody Units). A positive result measuring from 15 BAU/ml indicates the presence of neutralizing antibodies.
Our test for detecting neutralizing antibodies is in line with that of the Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer protection, thus falling under the “clear detection of neutralizing antibodies”.
A blood sample will be taken for this test.
When does a Corona test make sense?
From a medical point of view, PCR testing makes sense if there is a suspicion of being infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. This is especially true if you have symptoms such as fever, dry cough or shortness of breath and / or if you have had contact with a sick person or people from crisis areas. An active infection can still be determined with people who are (still) symptom-free – This helps determine whether the person tested is the virus carrier.
In the case of antibody testing, it should be emphasized again that this should only be carried out around 4 weeks after the first symptoms appear. Only then can one determine whether a Covid-19 infection with the coronavirus has already run its course. Any immunity is the subject of various studies.
Stop
If you suspect you might be infected with SARS-CoV-2, testing is only possible at the IHR LABOR 1220 location. Please come to the marked examination container at the parking lot behind the IHR LABOR 1220 building.
We ask you to protect other people by wearing a face mask, not entering the laboratory building!
If you have severe symptoms (such as high fever, cough, shortness of breath), please stay at home and call the hotline 1450, your family doctor or the ambulance 144 and follow the instructions given to you over the phone.
Special regulations
If you need a PCR test for approval for surgery and there is no suspicion of a Covid-19 infection, you can come to our IHR LABOR location after making an appointment by telephone. Please bring your medical confirmation with the date of the operation – in this case, a discounted special price applies.
